Story Seeds

Story Seeds was a multi-arts community storytelling and place-making project, conducted in 2023 and 2024. It encompassed three strands of creative engagement with First Nations and culturally diverse communities living in different neighbourhoods of greater Wollongong and Shellharbour.

Amaroo Burragh

Amaroo Burragh Bush Tucker Garden at Mount Warrigal Public School was the inspiration for creative activity, as well as cultural learning and connection with Elders, for a group of Aboriginal and culturally diverse children. Supported by Mount Warrigal Public School in greater Shellharbour, the program culminated in a guided story telling tour of the garden devised and presented by the children for their school community as part of NAIDOC celebrations in August 2022.

The Company of Women

A diverse group of women came together every fortnight to enjoy each other’s company, share their stories, songs, and dance traditions, and learn new creative skills. Supported by Cringila Community Centre, the group also hosted a number of creative story-telling gatherings with a wider network of women from culturally diverse backgrounds living in the Port Kembla, Warrawong, Lake Heights and Cringila neighbourhoods.

Project Connect

A group of young people from diverse cultural backgrounds living in the Port Kembla area participated in Project Connect in 2022. Supported by Port Kembla Youth Project, the group creatively explored their hopes, aspirations and fears for the future in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and devised a group performance, What If I? presented to their peers in November 2022.
